About Us

Mount Zion Primary and Infant School stands proudly on a scenic plateau in St. James, Jamaica, offering breathtaking views of the Rose Hall Developments and the island's stunning North Shore. Located approximately 46 kilometers east of Montego Bay in the peaceful Mount Zion District, our school has been a cornerstone of educational excellence since 1861, making us one of Jamaica's most established learning institutions. Founded by the Presbyterian Church (now the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands), Mount Zion Primary operates as a co-owned institution with the Ministry of Education, blending traditional values with modern educational approaches. Our diverse student body of over 100 pupils comes from the surrounding communities of Mount Zion, Cornwall, Palmyra, Rhyne Park, Lilliput, Spot Valley, and Barrett Town, creating a rich tapestry of backgrounds and experiences. Under the dedicated leadership of Principal Onex Bowen and our active Parent Teacher Association, Mount Zion Primary has distinguished itself through numerous achievements. We proudly hold awards from the JCDC Music Festival, the Edmund Bartlett East Central Constituency Award for Most Improved and Top Small School, and most recently, the prestigious STEAM in Action Challenge National Agrarian Award for Innovation in hydroponics. These accolades reflect our commitment to nurturing well-rounded students who excel academically, creatively, and innovatively. At Mount Zion Primary, we believe that every child deserves an education that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. Our motto, 'Onward, Upward,' encapsulates our unwavering commitment to continuous growth, excellence, and the pursuit of knowledge that elevates both our students and our community.
